PRASASTI is a gamelan group. Gamelan is like an orchestra. It contains many different instruments in an ensemble group. The instruments are gong, bonang, balungan–saron and demung, kenong, kethuk, gambang, slenthem, gendher, and gendang or kendhang which widely spread in several areas in Indonesia such as Sumatra, Java, and Bali. PRASASTI is abbreviation of Pradangga Sastra Inggris. It consists of much less 40 students of English Department of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta. It was initiated, precisely, on May 03, 2011 and officially established on our first practice on May 18, 2011. My friends and I are so happy that now this group can grow and compete among other gamelan groups in Yogyakarta. 🙂
This was our picture after performing at TemBi Rumah Budaya in Bantul, Yogyakarta. We were collaborating with our classmates from English Department in order to perform in this event. They were Eric, Maria Erlita, Ronang, Pria, Cherry (all from Class 2010, except Qisthi who is from Class 2011 )who worked as the poets and Aji with Qisthy as the MC.
